Mobile Court Takes Action Against Unsafe Food Practices in Patuakhali, Restaurant Fined and Sealed
Patuakhali, June 7, 2026: In an effort to ensure food safety, protect consumer rights, and maintain public health standards, a mobile court operation was conducted in Patuakhali town on Sunday evening under the directives of the Honorable Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Patuakhali, Dr. Mohammad Shahid Hossain Chowdhury.
The operation took place at approximately 5:30 PM in the busy Titas Mor area of the district town. During the campaign, several hotels, restaurants, and fast-food establishments were inspected by the mobile court to verify compliance with food safety regulations and consumer protection laws.
During the inspection, authorities found serious violations at a fast-food restaurant named Chai Pie. Officials discovered a large quantity of spoiled and mold-contaminated food items, including pizzas, burgers, bread, and mayonnaise, which were being stored and offered for sale to customers.
According to the mobile court, these food products were unfit for human consumption and posed significant health risks to consumers. The presence of spoiled ingredients and unhygienic food storage conditions raised concerns about food safety and public health.
Following the findings, legal action was taken against the establishment under the provisions of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2018. The restaurant was fined BDT 20,000 (Twenty Thousand Taka) for violating food safety regulations. In addition, the business premises were officially sealed by the authorities to prevent further operations until necessary corrective measures are taken.
During the campaign, officials also conducted awareness activities among local hotel and restaurant owners. Business operators were instructed to maintain proper hygiene standards, ensure safe food preparation practices, and strictly avoid the sale of adulterated, expired, or contaminated food products.
Authorities emphasized that every food business has a responsibility to provide safe and healthy food to consumers. They warned that strict legal action would continue to be taken against any establishment found violating food safety laws or endangering public health.
The District Administration of Patuakhali reiterated its commitment to protecting consumer rights and ensuring the availability of safe food products across the district. Officials stated that similar mobile court operations and monitoring activities will continue regularly to discourage unsafe business practices and strengthen food safety compliance.
The administration further urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspected food safety violations to the relevant authorities, helping create a healthier and safer environment for all.
